Prepology: Container missle threat?

I came across this and while it is dated it is still interesting. It has been suggested that those who would like to do us harm could use container ships to sneak in either a dirty bomb or some huge amount of explosives or even use the ship as a weapon by it's self. This unit had been manufactured by the Russians so you know it will be exported to anyone with money, joy, fun, thrill. We all know that cargo coming in to the US only has a cursory inspection at the least but in this case it could make it to the US and be parked just outside the port.

Friday UPS dry runs

The news seems to be hopping with UPS planes being used for dry runs from Yemen, DHS seems to be looking at several aircraft and now a UPS truck stopped on the road with the bomb squad. Add to that the evacuation of a federal courthouse housing the federal Marshals. I call this a busy Friday huh. Early is the day and I am sure it will dominate the news for the day. For what it seems like right now it looks like a pretty big "dry run" scenario. Not much more to add for now. Take care and be safe.

I am still in the belief that when we get hit again I am not sure it will be what we have seen in the past, I think it will be a much softer and unheard target such as the one I have written about below.

The Food Crisis Of 2011?

Prices for basic foodstuffs like corn and wheat remain below their 2008 highs. But they’re a lot higher than they were before “the food crisis of 2008” took hold. Here’s what’s happened to some key farm commodities so far in 2010…

* Corn: Up 63%
* Wheat: Up 84%
* Soybeans: Up 24%
* Sugar: Up 55%

Short term evac location

Many people may or may not have a plan in place for a short term emergency that necessitates them leaving their home area. For some reason due to natural, civil or terrorist unrest you have been ordered or you decide to take an unscheduled involuntary vacation. What is the plan? does your immediate family know the plan?

Pet peeve of the day

I was going to mention this earlier but got sidetracked and I just got reminded of it. I try not to get mad very often but on this subject I can't hold it anymore. I can think of no group more that should get to vote than our active duty military. Right now we have a few states that have dropped the ball on purpose in my opinion in getting these absentee ballots out to the troops, this really pisses me off. Who in the hell do you think you are to do this to the ones that sacrifice the most. I have a solution to this problem, I think we should line these spineless, gutless, chickenshit bastards up and beat them senseless short of death. Piss ant bastards!!!

New York city proposed firearms restrictions

New York City residents who want to own a gun may soon be denied permits if they are litterbugs, if they are bad drivers, or if they have fallen behind on a few bills.

Under proposed revisions to the police department's handgun, rifle and shotgun permit procedures, the NYPD can reject gun license applicants for a number of reasons, including: Read the rest here.

This being NYC it does not surprise me one bit at all.  Gunafobia is all I can think of on the part of TPTB but you know they have their weapons, guards and police protection.

Funny of the day

I caught this over at frugals:

History of the Last Five Thousand Years

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel
”pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead
you to the promised land"

Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on
your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the promised land".

Now Obama has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price
of camels and mortgaged the promised land!

I was so depressed last night thinking about Health Care Plans, the
economy, the wars, lost jobs, savings, Social Security, retirement
funds, etc . . . I called Lifeline.

Got to a call center in Pakistan . I told them I was suicidal. They
got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck....

Products or services

Question: Is there a product or a service ( that you want ) that you feel does not exist or is under represented in the prepper community?

Misc thoughts today.

  • No Wonder They Are So Tense - Deer sleep only 5 minutes a day.
  • Federal Income Tax History
  • A few years old but true. The local county commission turned down a business license request to a very large paper company that would have brought several hundred jobs to the city. The reason why? the environmental impact study came to the conclusion that the cleaned waste water was TOO CLEAN. Permit denied.
I think the one I have the biggest problem with is the 2nd one. I galls the hell out of me that a subsidiary of china cleans our clock, to me it just goes to show how far we have slipped in the world. I have long thought that we have been riding the coattails of the last hundred years, well reality is catching up to us, and fast.

Thoughts on the American economic circular firing squad

I have touched on this concept a few times in the past in several different ways and my opinion on how well we Americans like to deliberately screw ourselves up remains unchanged. One area in particular that I do not think many people think through is the vicious cycle that we are in with regards to our economy, at this point in time who or what event caused it is not important to me but the solution in getting out of it is!  I have no faith in our government or any other entity for that matter to get us out of it, for that matter I see it as a people issue, that's you and me folks. We have to fix this problem, yes it is a big problem, yes it take some sacrifice and yes if we do not fix it we will pass it on to our children to deal with in the future, that is if we have one..

OK in the simplest terms one problem I see that puts us in that circular firing squad with the economy is for example Joe schmuckatelli  ( sorry Joe ) is either unemployed or underemployed and has filed for unemployment insurance. Joe now with a reduced income tightens his belt to make ends meet, We all do this right? we all want the best price we can find on no matter what we shop on, we compare, we look for the deal. Now we do it even more to stretch the dollar and that is where most people leave it, right there with the lowest price for that product. This is where we have our problem and how we screw ourselves, Do you know where the product was made? Do we even care? Sadly most people do not know or worse yet even care they are just out for the best price, Best price on the face anyway but we fail to look at the overall cost or the human cost.

Consider this, Joe used to work in a manufacturing plant making toasters ( substitute any consumer product ) As demand for this toaster went down people started to get laid off now you know people suddenly did not decide to give up their toast, What happened? well someone in another country decided to make that same toaster but the labor they use to make it with only costs them about a dollar a day so therefore the overall cost for this toaster in your local department store is much lower that the toaster Joe produces. Lower cost in a bad economy means people are more willing to buy a cheaper product both in cost and maybe quality. Now if people go out and buy more of the toaster that is made out of the country versus the toaster made in your country you will eventually end up with that person in this case Joe being laid off because his product is no longer in as high a demand, that means he will need his unemployment check or maybe food stamps so what does that toaster really cost you?

Now I know some people will scream protectionism or that in some way a job created overseas will create a better job over here or that we will switch to a technology/ service economy but I will disagree. Why I will disagree is that not everyone is cut out for a technology job or a service job, take your pick. I hate to say it but there are a lot of people out there that have limited skills and have no desire to make better of themselves and therefore they will fit into a certain low level job market. This is not good nor is it bad, it is their choice to do as they wish and I would much rather buy a product that they make and keep them employed versus someone outside of the country. I believe that this should also apply to other countries too, they should take care of their own countrymen first as well.

The bottom line here is that where the product was made is important. Do you want your money to stay in in your country and be paid out as a salary of one of your countrymen or do you want it to leave the country and eventually hurt a worker here?

Example to learn from. Cholera outbreak

I am sure most of you have heard about the outbreak of Cholera down in Haiti, the only thing that surprises me is me is in how long it took for something like this to finally happen. Haiti being a mess well before the earthquake hit them will have it's hands even more full now. Aid is pouring in left and right but with  over a hundred dead already and more on the way who knows where this will go.

I would take away from this the importance of having a clean water supply or at least a way to make contaminated water clean again. Water in most but not all situations is second only to air, you have to have it to survive. Take along with that horrible sanitation practices or lack of any practices and you end up with problems like these , it is not a place I would like to be in at all. Now could something like this happen here in the States or some other developed country? The answer is yes and it has already happened before, being a developed country there is an infrastructure in place to take care of these issues but remove part of the infrastructure and we could end up in an even worse pickle as we are so dependent on it. We take it for granted that it will always be there. Take for example an extended blackout, say 5 to 7 days and make that in a major city, where are you going to get your water from? Most water is pumped in, same with your sewage out. We take it for granted that the tap will work and the toilet will flush and when it does not whats the backup plan? especially if you live on the 20th floor of an apartment building. Technology is a huge plus, that is until it fails. Most people in a developed nation have forgotten how to " Rough it " so to speak. Take the opportunity to asses you liquid assets I.E. water and water purification strategies, Sanitation? whats your plan for that as well, you can't hold it.

Paris airports pipeline cut amid protests

Paris airports pipeline cut amid protests: company
PARIS (AFP) - – The fuel pipeline to Paris' two main airports as well as depots outside the capital was cut on Friday, operator Trapil told AFP, as pension reform protests around the country hit supplies.
The main Paris air hub, Charles de Gaulle, could run out of fuel as early as next week, a company spokesman said, adding that three fuel depots supplying road filling stations south of the capital would also be hit.
Contacted by AFP, Paris' airport authority had no immediate comment.
"Orly airport has stocks for 17 days, and Roissy for at least the weekend," the Trapil official said, adding that the pipeline carried petrol, diesel and aviation fuel from the Grandpuits refinery east of Paris, which is on strike.
The CGT trade union said its members, who are protesting plans to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62, had downed tools at Grandpuits and that production there would halt completely on Friday.
President Nicolas Sarkozy's government has vowed to press ahead with the pensions reform bill, and has deployed police to break-up demonstrations that had blocked several fuel depots around the country.
But most of the countries' refineries have been shut down by the strikes, and fuel distributors have complained that panic buying and disrupted supplies could lead to shortages unless they are allowed to tap emergency supplies.
The government has given the firms' permission to tap into their own emergency stocks, but has resisted calls to open the part of the strategic fuel controlled by a government committee.

Log cabin day 22

Today ended up being an outside day as we are trying to get this cabin sealed up for winter. You can see the difference in weathering of the T-111 paneling that we put up today at the top, we are about done on three sides then we can get more work done inside.
Here is a side view, on the left below the temp window and above the four stubbed out logs there will be another roof line that will come out and cover the deck that will go all the way around the cabin, this will also hide the ugly transition at the log to T-111 spot.
I pulled up a few pictures from the original construction of this cabin and you can see the difference a year and a half makes on the logs, they weather really quick. When we have everything all sealed in and have the decks build we are going to sandblast the logs then seal them and it will go back to being a little lighter in color.

Unrest in france over retirement reform

It looks as if the push to raise the retirement over in France is not going too well, students are raising a ruckus over the possible raise to age 62 versus the 60 it is now.....Me, I don't worry about it because I know there is no way in hell I will ever see a dime of the money I put into the great Ponzi scheme. Log cabin day 20 and 21

OK I have combined yesterday with today because of issues the other day, today was a little better and we have a very good plan for tomorrow. Now for the other day we installed this fold down ladder in the 3rd floor hallway, it goes up to the very small attic that we squeezed in above a bathroom. Most of what we did is hard to see, decking above the bathroom really does not show too well.
This stud framing will separate the master bath from the master bedroom, in between the wall separation we are fitting in a closet for the bath and the bedroom.
This is another view of the bedroom/ bathroom closets
A view from the master bedroom, to the right is the opening for sliding door that will be installed. Also under these stairs will be storage/ pantry space.
Another view of the stairs and the opening for the sliding door going into the master bedroom.

This just forwarded to me in an e-mail

Clint Smith, Director of Thunder Ranch, is a drill instructor (Thunder Ranch is a firearms training facility in   Arizona ). Here are a few of his observation on tactics, firearms, self defense and  life as we know it in the civilized world.

"The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win and cheat if  necessary."

"Don't forget, incoming fire has the right of way.."

"Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. You may get killed with your own gun, but he'll have to beat you to death with it, cause it's going to be empty."

"If you're not shootin', you should be loadin'. If you're not loadin',  you should be movin', if you're not movin', someone's gonna cut your head off and put it on a stick."

"When you reload in low light encounters, don't put your flashlight in  your back pocket.. If you light yourself up, you'll look like an angel or  the tooth fairy... and you're gonna be one of 'em pretty soon."

"Do something It may be wrong, but do something."

"Shoot what's available, as long as it's available, until something else  becomes available."

"If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous.  If you have a gun, what in the hell do you have to be paranoid for."

"Don't shoot fast, unless you also shoot good.."

"You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or use any other word you think will work,  but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is  pretty much the universal language."

"You have the rest of your life to solve your problems.. How long you live depends on how well you do it."

"You cannot save the planet but you may be able to save yourself and your family."

"Thunder Ranch will be here as long as you'll have us or until someone  makes us go away, and either way, it will be exciting."

More Excellent Gun Wisdom.......

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in  defense..  The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more  important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is  supplemental.

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll  just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The  reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'

6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

7. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.'

8. Beware of the man who only has one gun, because he probably knows how to use it very well.

Redneck day

OK Ladies, Gents and space aliens alike no cabin update today as it turned out to be a total cluster in that everything we started seemed to get hung up in one way or another. The biggest hang up being a few things for the master bathroom work fine on paper but in laying it out it just didn't work to that's on hold for a day or two until we work out the changes. On the bright side we did get the pull down ladder installed for the small attic space that we worked in so I will include a pic of that when I have more content to fit in. Other than that not much to go on but this little redneck funny I found, Author unknown.

You might be a redneck if: It never occurred to you to
be offended by the phrase, 'One nation, under God..'

You might be a redneck if: You've never protested about seeing
the 10 Commandments posted in public places.

You might be a redneck if: You still say ' Christmas'
instead of 'Winter Festival.'

You might be a redneck if: You bow your head when
someone prays.

You might be a redneck if: You stand and place your
hand over your heart when they play the National Anthem

You might be a redneck if: You treat our armed forces
veterans with great respect, and always have.

You might be a redneck if: You've never burned an
American flag, nor intend to.

You might be a redneck if: You know what you believe
and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening.

You might be a redneck if: You respect your elders and
raised your kids to do the same.

You might be a redneck if: You'd give your last dollar to
a friend.

Log cabin day 19

Not much to show to day as we got some sheeting up and we did some minor stud work that really does not translate into a photo. As this pic shows the overlook windows from 3rd floor to the 2nd.

Log cabin day 18

Well work is starting up again on the cabin and today we closed in the front wall. The French doors are ordered but we will wait to install them so we do not ding them up. We made up a temp door though and to either side of the french door location you can see the cutouts for the other two glass doors that will be installed at a later data also.
On the third floor when we redesigned it we were able to add a small storage space above the bathroom, it is a nine by nine by about three foot high in the center so it will have plenty of room for not very used items. Access will be by a pull down ladder in the hallway.
Casper the friendly ghost showed up, actually that streak it the by-product of an led light. It is hard to see but on the wall is the first opening on the right, below the streak that is an opening so you can look out from the third floor to the second.
Here to the right is that same opening that you get to look out to the floor below. We are getting close to closing this cabin in before winter gets here, it has already dipped into the 20's this last week.

Border violence, this time on our side

Police Chief: Border Violence Has Offically Crossed Over

Last Update: 10/04 6:24 pm

BROWNSVILLE – Brownsville Police Chief Carlos Garcia says the border violence has officially crossed over into the Valley. Two Tamaulipas men were assassinated inside a truck Friday.

The chief of police says the investigation has led them to believe this wasn’t a crime committed by someone in the US. “This was a hit ordered by the cartel,” he says.

Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos isn’t surprised to see spillover violence in Brownsville. He says, “it was a matter of time before it trickled down to our community.”

Residents say they didn't think it would become a reality. One woman who wanted to conceal her identity says witnessing a crime, such as the shooting of the Tamaulipas men, could be very dangerous. "If an innocent family would have been passing by and seen that they would have been the next target," said one woman. She worries about future violence and is considering moving out of the Valley.

Cascos advises everyone to be cautious and more aware of their surroundings.

U.S. terrorism ( Fictitious attack)

*** Note, this is not a real news story but fictitious***

For immediate release
Written by: Andrea Davis
ZPN NEWS WIRE

Tragedy today from Americas heartland as hundreds are killed in an apparent terrorist attack in the small city of Muncie, Indiana located roughly one hour north of the state capital, Indianapolis. Approximately 35 heavily armed men carrying fully automatic weapons and explosives attacked several targets to include the local police department, State Patrol and Sheriff's office, the largest and most devastated targets were the two largest High Schools, Muncie Central and Muncie Southside, both schools have a combined attendance of about 2,300 students.

Carnage and absolute destruction rained down upon this small town of approximately 67,000 shortly around 9:30 am when the initial attack began using improvised explosives that were inside small cars and trucks that were strategically placed outside the various law enforcement agencies and schools. Police had to only walk out their front entrances to witness the attacks and respond, only they did not know that these explosions were to only draw out police and emergency responders into an automatic weapons firefight.

Sadly the terrorists plans to draw off law enforcement worked as their primary goal of assaulting two high schools and the killing of as many students as possible. Officials will not release the numbers of those slain but the fear is that over 640 students and staff have been the victims of this horrific act of terrorism. At this time resources from around the country are pouring in to the state to try and bring the situation under control, State police and the F.B.I. have taken over control of the on going crisis and at the time of the filing of this report there are still unconfirmed reports of undetonated car bombs and terrorists still on the loose.

ZPN NEWS WIRE

One month after the most devastating shooting attacks on U.S. soil, the aftereffects are still being felt and will be felt for some time to come. We have official reports from the F.B.I. indicating that the death tool stands at 683 people. This number does not including the 34 suspected terrorists. More victims are expected to die from their injuries in the near future. Although the F.B.I. does not know exactly how many terrorists were involved, they are confident that the number was close to 35. The F.B.I. have confirmed that one terrorist has been captured and has been moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation. Information from the suspect so far is that they (the terrorists) crossed the Mexican/Texas border with their weapons and explosives. The F.B.I. believe that the group had additional help from inside the country and those leads are being pursued.

The effects of this terrorist attack are still widespread with fear gripping the nation. Due to a lack of attendance nationwide, schools are closed and not expected to open for some time, safety and security concerns are the main factor.   The economy has taken a massive hit due to the attacks as most people are staying home or only working if they can. There have also been massive riots due to extreme cases of food and material shortages, everyone seems to be bracing for further attacks. The government and national guard units are expected to begin a system of convoys to get needed goods moving again. Food, fuel and medical supplied are the main priority and there are also rumors of a temporary rationing plan to curb hoarding. Various presidential executive orders are also being implemented so that the government can ensure high value services can be maintained.

19 Facts About The Deindustrialization Of America That Will Blow Your Mind

Improvised battery firestarting

Graphics notwithstanding here I am sure many of you have seen some form of the diagram or have seen it portrayed on TV. In a pinch any of these techniques will work for you if you have a battery with some life to it and some FINE steel wool. There are several types of steel wool out there and some of it works better than others so a little experimentation is called for. Now one can never have too many ways to start a fire, have a backup. I generally tend to use the AA or 9 volt type battery because it is very light to carry along with steel wool but do your self a favor and keep them separated, me I keep them in separate plastic boxes and use as needed. BE WARNED using batteries can be dangerous with steel wool as you will be creating red hot heat so be careful.

October, Yeah

Well October is here and that means we can expect to be bombarded with every political add imaginable for candidate X,Y and Z. I can understand the argument for and against term limits in the house and senate and I think it might be time for them. I figure this might be a way  to get in a consistent group of fresh blood, it might even drop the cost of a candidate running for said office too, money seems to price out what would be a good candidate because they do not have 10 or 100 million to throw to a race, I do not think that is what the framers had in mind long ago. Oh well I do not see any chance of things going to a better way anytime soon, we have some very serious problems going on here in this country and this coming election is not going to fix them. Like it or not we have spent about the last 100 years digging ourselves into our messes and it will take us at least that long to get out of ( peacefully anyway ) I myself though think we will get out of it in a bloodier way.
