What's in your fuel tank?

      What's in your fuel tank in your car? Full, 3/4, half, less? I know that in these time's we are in that fuel prices are high and they fluctuate as much as the wind blows but as the ever prepared person you are you  having a full tank sets you apart from from the masses. In actuality you might even go steps further and store fuel for those emergencies that do happen now and then, the point being is that you are prepared to use your vehicle to get out of an emergency.

      I have suggested in the past about having a place to go to when staying at your home is not an option. Having options in place before a crisis can save valuable time and cut down on stress. I like to stress having at least 3 locations that you can use in times of need. Examples could be a short range location 2 to 3 miles away for a small emergency. For a small town emergency A location 40 to 60 miles away works, you do not want to walk this far do you? Now for the big one say a regional or in my case a western state emergency you could look at a couple of hundred miles to leave a crisis, doing so on less than a full tank of gas could be dicey in the very least and one of the last things you want to be doing is lining up at a gas station for gas you may or may not be able to get by the time you get to the pumps.

Make a plan, have options, don't run with the herd.

Arizona end of the month riots? Maybe

     July 29th is set to be the day that the controversial SB1070 law goes into effect, that is unless an injunction is issued in federal court, toss a coin who knows. In the event that the law does go into effect and you live in the Phoenix area do you have a plan if the SHTF?

     I take into account from the previous history of protests in the area that some people will not take the law going into effect lying down, when you are already illegal why not do something else illegal like riot... Now if riots do happen I would put my money Phoenix being a very interesting place...... to avoid. As for those who do live in the area it might be worth your time to have an event plan in your mind if things do go south, like:

• Have your car/ truck filled up the day before
• Plan on staying away from hot spots in contention
• Have a place to go outside the city if needed
• Know where your kids plan on being that day ( modify as needed ) 
• Is your BOB up to date?  is your car's?
• Do you have everything at home you need for a few days if need be? ( your a prepper of coarse you do )
• Consider security for the day if you own a storefront business 

     The above is only a very small partial list to think about, I would take this as a training opportunity to test yourself and family. Hopefully nothing comes of this event but better to be prepared and safe.... Take care.

Have a plan

It's here on the beach and if you live or work here you are a little screwed, do you have a plan?




This event will cause many people harm both physically and economically for years to come. If you were directly involved in business that is ocean derived you are going to take a hit, sure down the road as lawsuits are filed and claims are paid you might recover but what about the right now?

Do you have cash reserve? Do you have a place to go if you have to move out of the area? Whats your plan?

This is a disaster for sure and it will be debated to death and then some but for the now lets look at bugging out.  If that is your plan, you should have a general plan that can cover multiple disasters man made or natural.

Having a dedicated vehicle to leave the area in would be nice but in reality we would be bailing out in what we have, our daily driver. ( at least until we win the lottery )
Having our vehicle in tip top shape maintenance wise and a full tank of gas ( or close to it ) would give you a good step up. Do you have some supplies stashed in your vehicle? Maps, GPS, compass. One piece of equipment that I think everyone should have in their vehicle is some form of communications, one of the simplest, easiest and cheapest would be a CB radio. While on the road there is almost always information available on local conditions, knowing what is going on will help you plan your route, remember knowledge is power.

I have always been partial to COBRA radios because they work and can be modified in many ways ( not all mods are legal ). The model shown is a cobra 148 GTL series this comes with 120 channel capability (40 am, 40 upper sideband and 40 lower sideband). The only additional capability I wish this unit had is the weather alert feature, this covers the national weather emergency band and is activated even when the radio is off. In the big world of radios there are more expensive, better and worse but this is a proven radio and there are hundreds of thousands of them out there so they must be doing something right. No matter what you do, add a radio to your bag of tricks.
